The Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Department of Alisal Union School District is committed to ensuring every student has the support, relationships, and opportunities needed to thrive academically, socially, emotionally, behaviorally, and physically. Grounded in a whole-child, equity-centered, and prevention-focused approach, PPS partners with students, families, educators, administrators, and community organizations to remove barriers to learning, strengthen school systems, and create safe, inclusive, and connected learning environments.

Through a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), we provide and coordinate a continuum of universal, targeted, and individualized supports responsive to student and school needs.

 

Student Wellness & MTSS

 

PPS supports schools in building strong systems of wellness, behavior, mental health, and student engagement across Tiers 1–3.

 

Tier 1 | Universal Supports
Promoting success for all students through SEL, PBIS, positive school climate, attendance and engagement, classroom and school-wide behavioral practices, prevention, and staff capacity-building.

Tier 2 | Targeted Supports
Providing additional support through targeted SEL and behavioral interventions, mentoring, attendance interventions, student support teams, counseling and wellness services, progress monitoring, and family collaboration.

Tier 3 | Intensive Supports
Coordinating individualized and intensive behavioral, mental health, crisis, and wraparound supports for students with more significant or complex needs. Across all three tiers, PPS partners with school teams to identify needs, use data, monitor progress, and continuously improve supports.

 

Safety, Crisis Response & Prevention

Student safety is foundational to learning and wellness. PPS supports district and school-site implementation of the Safety Big Five Protocols, establishing consistent practices for prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery. Through training, collaboration, practice, and continuous improvement, PPS helps schools strengthen their ability to respond to critical incidents while connecting safety with broader wellness, climate, and MTSS systems.

 

Mental Health, Wellness & Positive School Climate

 

PPS promotes student well-being through prevention, early intervention, and individualized supports that foster:

• Social-emotional development and resilience
• Positive relationships and belonging
• Mental health and behavioral wellness
• Positive behavior and school climate
• Restorative and relationship-centered practices
• Crisis prevention and response
• Family and community partnerships

PPS works alongside school leaders, educators, and wellness teams to strengthen implementation of SEL, PBIS, and whole-child practices. Through learning walks, classroom observations, data review, and tools such as the Tiered Fidelity Inventory (TFI), we support schools in identifying strengths, addressing needs, and strengthening practice.

 

Attendance, Engagement & Student Success

PPS partners with students, families, and schools to promote regular attendance, meaningful engagement, and successful participation in school. Our approach focuses on prevention, early identification, relationship-building, problem-solving, and removing barriers to attendance and engagement.

• Educational Access & Placement Support

We work collaboratively with families and school teams to ensure processes are supportive, equitable, and focused on maintaining students' connection to learning.

 

Family & Community Partnerships

We believe students are most successful when schools, families, and communities work together.

PPS collaborates with families, community organizations, and service providers to coordinate resources, strengthen support systems, and address barriers that may impact student success. Family voice, partnership, and collaboration are essential to our work.

We work alongside school teams to understand student and school needs, implement appropriate supports, monitor progress, and continuously strengthen systems and practices. Our goal is not simply to respond to challenges, but to build systems that prevent barriers, promote wellness, and help every student succeed.
