After being in a pandemic for two years, the world is opening up but it’s not really what it was before it all shut downp. Everything seems very confusing, and sometimes we feel angry, and frustrated, and we don’t know how to make sense of it all. And yet, we have the power to act in small ways to make sense of it: it’s in small actions we take every day. So what can you do every day to make your school (and the world) a better place? By getting along with others? By taking care of your health and wellness?
Art and poetry offer important avenues of expression for everyone, young and old. And what better way to celebrate National Poetry Month! Through the contest “I count! This is how Im make the school a better place,” it is our hope that Alisal students will find an outlet to convey the complex emotions that arise as the world returns to a “new normal.”
You can also explore other themes about the world around you: What makes you feel hopeful?
How do you feel about being in school/community? About being around your peers? How do you express yourself now? What makes you feel safe and respected? Brainstorm with your teacher and classmates for ideas about putting all of this in a poem or a drawing.
Students have an opportunity to submit one poem or one drawing. Teachers may submit one finalist from his/her classroom in each category to their site administrators. Site administrators will help decide how to select one finalist to submit to the District office in each category.
Categories:
Preschool-2: Art and Poetry
3-4: Art and Poetry
5-6: Art and Poetry
Students: Please submit one drawing or one poem to your teacher. Poem can be in English, Spanish, or indigenous language (Mixteco, Triqui, Tzotzil, etc.)
Teachers: Please submit the best drawing and the best poem to your school administrator or contest coordinator.
Principals or contest coordinator: please submit your finalists to the District office.
One student will be chosen per category and per discipline, a total of six per school. Winners will receive a medal at a special ceremony, a gift card, and his/her picture will be featured on their school’s and District’s website.
Timeline/Deadlines:
Deadline to submit to principals: 5 pm., April 19
Deadline to submit to District Office: April 22

Después de estar en la pandemia durante dos años, el mundo está reabriendo a la normalidad, pero en realidad no es lo que era antes de que todo se cerrara. Todo parece confuso y, a veces, nos sentimos enojados y frustrados, y no sabemos cómo encontrarle sentido a todo. Y, sin embargo, tenemos el poder de tomar un poco de control para darle sentido es en pequeñas acciones que tomamos todos los días. Entonces, ¿qué puedes hacer todos los días para hacer de tu escuela (y del mundo) un lugar mejor? ¿Llevándote bien con los demás? ¿Cuidando de tu salud y bienestar?
El arte y la poesía ofrecen importantes vías de expresión para todos, jóvenes y mayores. ¡Y qué mejor manera de celebrar el Mes Nacional de la Poesía! A través del concurso “¡Yo cuento! Así ayudo a construir un mundo mejor”, esperamos que los estudiantes de Alisal encuentren una avenida para transmitir las emociones complejas que surgen a medida que el mundo regresa a una “nueva normalidad”.
También puedes explorar otros temas sobre el mundo que te rodea: ¿Qué te da esperanza? ¿Cómo te sientes en la escuela o en tu comunidad? ¿Cómo te sientes cerca de tus compañeros? ¿Cómo te expresas ahora? ¿Qué te hace sentir seguro y respetado? Haz una lluvia de ideas con tu maestro y compañeros de clase para obtener ideas sobre cómo poner todo esto en un poema o un dibujo.
Los estudiantes tienen la oportunidad de enviar un poema o un dibujo. Los maestros pueden enviar un finalista de su salón de clases en cada categoría a los administradores de su escuela. Los administradores de cada escuela ayudarán a decidir cómo seleccionar un finalista para enviar a la oficina del distrito en cada categoría.

Preschool-2: Arte and Poesía
3-4: Arte and Poesía
5-6: Arte and Poesía
Estudiantes: envíen un dibujo o un poema a su maestro.
Maestros: seleccione el mejor dibujo y el mejor poema y mándeselo para el administrador de su escuela o el coordinador del concurso.
Directores o coordinador del concurso en la escuela: envíe sus finalistas a la oficina del distrito.
Se elegirá un alumno por categoría y por disciplina, en total seis por escuela. Los ganadores recibirán una medalla en una ceremonia especial, una tarjeta de regalo y su foto aparecerá en el sitio web de su escuela y distrito.
Fechas clave:
Fecha límite para entregar finalistas a los directores: 5pm, 19 de abril
Fecha límite para enviar finalistas a la Oficina del Distrito: 22 de abril
Los ganadores se anunciarán el 30 de abril de 2021, Día de los niños y las niñas
