Professional development ahead of beginning of classes

We're 13 days away from the start of classes, and our teachers, administrators and support personnel have been working hard getting ready for the 2019-20 school year. Teachers -- new and existing -- are brushing up their instructional skills, custodians are ensuring our buildings are in tip-top shape, clerks are enrolling students, and IT technicians are distributing computers to our new teachers.

On Monday, July 29, bilingual teachers began a three-day professional development session to discuss best practices.

On Thursday, we began a three-day New Teacher Academy. Our new educators were welcome by Interim Superintendent Jim Koenig, coffee and scones. Many of them are veterans, many are new to the profession -- and we have a few who grew up in the Alisal. They learned all about the support they should be expecting to receive from colleagues, administrators at the site and at the district level. Thursday and Friday's academy will be capped with a third day of development in September.

Camp Alisal was the theme of the academy and was organized by the Alisal Teachers Association, a group of fantastic teachers who know what the needs of their colleagues are and are always ready to help. Not surprisingly, there were no bugs!

Teachers and administrators will continue with professional development and training next week. Our convocation will be held Aug. 14 and we begin classes Aug. 15.
