Alisal co-sponsors Blue Zone
The Alisal Union School District is one of many sponsors of the "Blue Zones Project", a health initiative promoted by Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System, Montage Health and Taylor Farms. The initiative was launched Saturday at a well attended event at Sherwood Park, where people could learn more about the initiative and about choosing healthy foods. Alisal employees, including Dr. Carissa Purnell and Irene Vargas helped serve healthy smoothies -- with our without yougurt!
The program was developed based on the experiences of National Geographic explorer Dan Buettner, who identified communities worldwide where people get to lead long, healthy lives. He's written three New York Times best-selling books about the Blue Zones, and he travels the world trying to convince municipalities to implement policies that will improve communty health.
The initiative has received widespread media coverage. Read more about it in The Californian, the Monterey Herald, and KSBW.
Thanks to our dedicated employees for helping this event to be a success. As members of the School Sector comittee, they blended 73 gallons of smoothie! Dr. Purnell and team distributed and properly fitted 190 bike helmets plus bike bells.
We're looking forward to seeing the benefits of a healthier world in our beautiful Alisal children. They deserve it.
