Super Heroes: The Alisal Good Teaching Conference is back!
For the fourth year in a row, teachers and administrators at the Alisal Union School District have joined forces to put together a teaching conference, a day-long learning experience where our own teachers train their colleagues on best practices and new research methods.
It’s a “Teachers Teaching Teachers” conference, where more than 30 presenters -- most of them Alisal educators — get in front of their colleagues to share their expertise in more than 80 sessions. This year's theme is “Super Heroes.” Teachers throughout the district are being asked to wear their favorite super hero gear to show their spirit and support for their colleagues presenting at the conference.
The conference begins at 8:05 a.m. There will be a keynote address at 8:25 a.m. by George Bárcenas, Technology Coordinator/CTE for Bellevue Union School District in Santa Rosa, Calif. Trained as a PE teacher, Bárcenas has taught high school English, Spanish and coached basketball from middle school and all the way to college. Technology has always been in his teaching from creating commercials in Spanish class to work on vocabulary to create a production of Romeo and Juliet with zombies.
Following the keynote address, teachers will have more than 80 different sessions to choose from throughout the day. The conference ends at 3 p.m., and will take place at Jesse G. Sánchez Elementary in Salinas.
