CCFC delivers hundreds of toys to Alisal families
Members of the Cesar Chavez Futbol Academy delivered hundreds of toys to families of the Alisal Union School District on Friday, Dec. 14, after weeks of fundraising and gathering dolls, stuffed animals, balls, and toys of all sorts.
The toys were handed out at the Alisal Family Resource Center during a festive afternoon that included face painting, games, hot chocolate and portraits with Santa Claus. It wias the fifth year in which club members fundraised to have toys and good will delivered to many deservinig and needy families in East Salinas.
“We have the privilege of working with families every day, and despite the role we often take as service providers sharing resources and supports, it is also important for families to know how grateful we are for that opportunity,” said Dr. Carissa Purnell, director of the Alisal Family Resource Centers Network. “The toy drive allows us to share more than a transfer of information, it helps us build the relationships and trust that we value more than anything here at the center. We are part of the community, and consider the little ones in our district our family and sometimes a simple gift can be a small extension of the care and love we have for each of them.”
Founded in 2010, the mission of the Cesar Chavez Futbol Academy is to provide opportunity for community youth and families to enhance their lives through academic success and the game of soccer. Toy drives held by CCFA in the past served over 630 children and families and provided toys for the holiday season.
“This toy drive provides an opportunity for our leaders to give back to the community we call home,” said Craig Sterling, co-founder and director of CCFA. “It’s our academy members, the CCFA boys and girls the ones who are running the toy drive and giving gifts to their friends, their brothers and sisters and back to their own community where they come from.”
