Alisal FRC Network receives Golden Bell Award

The Alisal Family Resource Center Network has been named an Official 2018 Golden Bell Award Winner by the California School Boards Association.

The annual Golden Bell Award promotes excellence in education and school board governance by recognizing outstanding programs in school districts and county offices of education throughout California. This year, 240 entries were received in 19 categories. Golden Bell Awards reflect the depth and breadth of education programs and governance decisions supporting these programs that are necessary to address students’ changing needs.

“Determining this year’s finalists has not been an easy task,” Mike Walsh, CSBA President, told Alisal Union School District administrators upon notification of finalist status.

The three family resource centers of the Alisal Union School District (Alisal, MLK and Frank Paul) serve thousands of families each year. The centers provide adult education, English language classes, basic computer literacy, referrals, family support groups, and much more. Each month, the dedicated staff at the Family Resource Centers Network provide different activities for the children with their parents. This month has been dedicated to creating calaveritas (sugar skulls) and pumpkins.

“The Alisal Family Resource Centers Network is committed to implementing ongoing programs to assist, nurture and support to our students and families,” said Dr. Jairo Arellano, Associate Superintendent of Whole Child Education. “We are committed to our community and strive to connect and integrate resources to support the Alisal.”

Receiving recognition for an outstanding program that highlights best practices in education is an honor that was immediately met with excitement at Alisal USD. While we all know within the district that the Alisal Family Resource Centers — Alisal, Frank Paul, and Martin Luther King — are a gem, we’re pleased to have this jewel be showcased statewide.

The award will be presented to the Alisal Family Resource Centers Network and Alisal Union School District on Nov. 29 at a ceremony in San Francisco.
