Oct. 22 to Oct. 26 is “Unity Week” and several of our schools will be celebrating anti-bullying week with different activities aimed at reminding our students to be Upstanders. Chávez and Creekside will be among the ones that celebrate on Oct. 24. Monte Bella and Fremont will celebrate their Unity day on Oct. 26.
As part of anti-bullying awareness month, Steinbeck Elementary students from all grades watched “The Power of One” on Oct. 15. "The Power of One" is a skit-based presentation that shows different bullying scenarios, bystander behaviors, and solutions to bullying. The message of the performance is that every child has the Power of One, the power to report and deal with bullying when they see it. For photos of the event, click here.
Unity Day, the signature event of National Bullying Prevention Month, has been recognized in the United States since 2011. To participate in Unity Day, individuals, schools, communities, and businesses wear or display orange to show support for students who have been bullied. One in five school-age children report being bullied at school.
