Celebrating our summer work
Our young musicians with Mariachi Juvenil Alisal received a recognition by the California State Senate during the regular board meeting of the Alisal Union School District Trustees.
It was one of several honors that took place on Wednesday afternoon. Dr. Roberto Núñez, principal of Monte Bella Elementary since it opened five years ago, presented all the teachers and administrators who’ve helped him in the establishment of a successful school with a certificate. Among them were Dr. Delia Gomez, Dr. Esteban Hernández, Alicia Fletcher, George Anzo, Ben Cogswell, Jim Koenig, and CSUMB’s Pam Motoike.
Next up were teachers who took on leadership roles during our summer programs. Juan Mendoza, Migrant Program Lead; Cecilia Moreno, English Learner Program Lead, and Lisa Lewis, Special Education Program Lead received recommendations from Dr. Hector Rico, AUSD Superintendent, and their respective program directors.
There was also a lot of good energy from Bardin Elementary’s professional learning network, a group of teachers who have been analyzing student data to identify areas of improvement and made a presentation to the Board of Trustees. The team has been led by Dr. Jairo Arellano, who has recently become Assistant Superintendent of Whole Child Education. Martin Gutierrez, Jr., the new Bardin Principal, received a warm round of applause from the school’s team.
Undoubtedly, our little mariachis were the star of the night. They all beamed as they watched the video about their program produced by Univision. Dr. Delia Gomez gave them certificates of recognition awarded for their participation at the California State Fair. Then they took photos with the board of trustees. Even former Superintendent Ruben Pulido (who is now the executive director of the Alisal Center for the Fine Arts) made an appearance to congratulate the Board and administrators for the work being done on behalf of the students. It’s heart-warming to watch these talented musicians enjoy their well earned respect.
