Alisal USD employees recognized
The Alisal USD employees of the year were recognized at an annual dinner held on May 14 and organized by the Monterey County Office of Education.
The AUSD employees who were selected for this honor were Mary Cambunga from Food Services, German Márquez, lead custodian at Frank Paul, and Norma Hernández-Cressman, 3rd grade teacher at John E. Steinbeck Elementary.
In addition to his hard work ethic, Mr. Márquez was nominated for the honor because “his heart is 10 times larger than his six-foot-six-inch frame,” said Frank Paul Principal Yolanda McIntosh. “He's just the best.”
Mr. Márquez has worked for the Alisal Union School District for almost 11 years. He began in 2007, he said, and he's always worked at Frank Paul. Born in Sinaloa, Mexico, he's lived in the United States since 1979. Before working for the Alisal USD, he worked as a lettuce harvester for 19 years and 10 years in a company that manufactured car mufflers. When the company moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, Mr. Márquez was retrained and began working at Frank Paul.
The students "son una chulada," he says. "I miss them when I'm not around them. "I like helping out. When people ask me if I can help, I say 'Immediately.'"
As the leader of the Alisal Union School District central kitchen, Mrs. Cambunga is responsible for overseeing the production of over 14,000 meals a day plus caterings.
“She leads her team with a smile and with her outstanding leadership skills always gets the job done on time,” says Irene Vargas, Director of Food Services and Purchasing.
Norma Hernandez-Cressman was recognized for her work ethic and passion for her students.
“Norma has earned the respect of colleagues, administrators, parents and students,” said Dr. Esteban Hernández, Director of Research and Evaluation at the Alisal Union School District. “Her students have regularly demonstrated high performance on state, district, and classroom level assessments.”
We are honored to have such outstanding and dedicated employees. Thank you for your service and all you do for our children. They deserve the best, and we know you're giving them your best!
