Message from the Principal
Welcome to César E. Chávez Elementary School. César E. Chávez School was named for the labor leader César E. Chávez, who believed that “We cannot seek achievement for ourselves and forget about progress and prosperity for our community. Our ambitions must be broad enough to include the aspirations and needs of others, for their sakes and for our own.” With this in mind, we strive to prepare our students to become active members of our community who are socially responsible.
At Chavez, we strive to provide academic excellence for our children in a multicultural environment that promotes bilingualism and respects diversity. Our dedicated and caring staff works together with our parents to provide a safe, nurturing environment for student learning where every child can learn.
Our instructional focus for the 2034-2024 academic year is:
During the 23/24 academic year, our instructional focus will be reading comprehension (Lexile, DRA, EDL). Teachers will use Close Reading/Close listening to improve student reading levels.
Teachers and administrators will prepare by learning students' individual needs and creating an academic plan. We will measure our progress by DRA/STAR reading levels and answering text-dependent questions.
