Dear Families:

Welcome back to a wonderful new 2010-11 school year! We hope that your summer has been enjoyable and restful. First day of school is Tuesday, August 17, 2010. The first day of school is a regular school day, so the hours are from 8:00 a.m. - 2:25 p.m. for 1st through 6th grades. For kinder see the attached schedule.

This is an exciting time for Alisal Community School as we begin the new school year. Together with staff and parents, we will work to provide educational excellence for our students, so that they can achieve their own learning potential! We will continue our focus on school improvement and with a strong commitment to our students.

As we prepare for a new year, we would like to offer you information that will help provide a successful school year.

Class Lists:
On August 13th class lists will be posted on the front doors of Alisal Community School. No changes will be made to student classes. Considerations will be handled until after enrollment has settle down. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the school at 753-5720.

First Day of School Celebration:
This year Alisal Community School will be holding a First Day of School Celebration on Tuesday, August 17th. Parents are invited to visit the school and meet outside for a school wide morning assembly followed by a visit to your child’s classroom. You are invited to visit our Community Agencies Fair in the cafeteria.

8:00 a.m. Outside Morning Assembly – Students, Teachers and Staff
8:15 a.m. Principal Welcomes Parents – Outside
8:30 a.m. Parents Visit Classroom and Reading Time – In classrooms
9:00 a.m. Community Fair – In the community room

School Cafeteria:
I’m proud to announce that our school cafeteria is ready! It will certainly be one of the busiest rooms in the school. The cafeteria is located in the back of the school next to the school parking lot. The cafeteria is open to students and staff only. In the morning students can come in to get breakfast at 7:20 a.m. – 7:55 a.m. The most important thing that the cafeteria will be used for is lunch. School lunch will be provided, but if you prefer, the student may bring a healthy lunch from home. Also, the cafeteria is the place where the after school snacks will be served before heading off to their program.

Safety Guidelines:
The safest and most convenient way to drop off your children or pick them up is to use the front of the school or our parking lot. Don’t drop off in the middle of the street. If this is inconvenient for you, you can always park on the street or parking lot and walk your child into the school. Please adhere to all traffic rules and remember to drive slowly in front of our school. Remember our school is located on a corner and there is a lot of traffic. Use only the designated crosswalks to walk your child to school. Remind them never to cross the streets illegally; thus this action might jeopardize his or her safety. Please follow the direction of our supervisors and parent patrols. They are there to ensure your child’s safety.

School Uniform:
All students must wear the school uniform. Please make sure that your child wears their proper uniform to school every day. Just as a reminder, the proper uniform for kinder – sixth grades consists of a white POLO shirt or blouse and dark green pants. In addition, sixth graders may wear black pants with a white POLO shirt or blouse. Starting Tuesday, August 10 – 20, 2010, a vendor will be here in front of the school selling uniforms. Feel free to stop by – white polo shirts: $8.00 - $10.00, dark skirts and/or pants: $10.00 - $18.00.

Handbooks and Important Forms:
During the first days of school, important information will be distributed to all students, including handbooks, forms and other notices. Many of the forms must be filled out, signed by a parent or guardian and returned to school in a timely manner. Students will receive a daily planner that they should use to record their homework assignments. In addition, they will receive a copy of our School Wide Discipline Plan to take home and review with their parents. It contains important information regarding school expectations and individual responsibilities.
